Lawyer Berland had role in labor case

Check into the details of one of Milwaukee's most famous labor
disputes and you'll find the name of Jack Berland there.
He was an attorney in 1934 for the union that represented workers
at the Milwaukee Electric Railway & Light Co. when they struck the
then--adamantly anti-union company. The strike brought thousands of
supporters into the street in "riot proportions," as local historian
John Gurda wrote in 1999. The company agreed to a settlement that was
a total victory for organized labor, Gurda wrote.
