Kerry blasts White House for 'character assassination'

North Kansas City, Mo. -- Sen. John Kerry on Saturday accused the White House of engaging in character assassination against the administration's former counterterrorism chief and called on President Bush's top national security adviser to testify under oath before a commission investigating the Sept. 11 terrorism attacks.

In his toughest reaction to last week's testimony before the special commission, Kerry said accusations from Bush allies that the former aide, Richard Clarke, is lying were part of a White House pattern of attack against its detractors.
