Storm water ponds have been working well for Big Cedar

Soil, other contaminants kept from entering lake

Town of West Bend -- Several storm water storage ponds near Big Cedar Lake successfully blocked recent heavy rains from dumping soil and other contaminants into Washington County's largest water body, an official with the lake's Protection and Rehabilitation District said.

Uphill ponds west, east and north of the lake trapped the muddy flows that in past decades would have pushed their loads into the lake, said Bob Schulteis, the district's operations manager.
