Pioneer Village needs sanitation upgrade, officials say

Thousands of people are drawn every year to the Ozaukee County- owned Pioneer Village living history site on Highway I in the Town of Saukville.

But living like a pioneer goes only so far, said officials who are looking at upgrading the site's water system and replacing the park's pit toilet with a septic system or holding tank.

Problem is, the county's not exactly flush with funds.

"There's no money in the budget for it this year. We'll have to see if it fits next year," Parks Commissioner Bill Knight said.
