PlayStation 2 adds hard drive for more muscle

Video game consoles systems are a lot more like computers, with their ability to be enhanced using add-on hardware.

Sony's PlayStation 2 -- which is now almost four years old -- is a leader in this trend.

In August 2002, Sony released its network adapter for the PS2, which lets players compete online and created a market for Internet- enabled console games.

Last month, Sony released a PS2 upgrade that could be equally significant, an add-on hard drive that gives this console the storage capacity that it's never had before.
