Since the early days of the Great Atlantic & Pacific general stores, sweetened condensed milk has been on shelves, writes Mary Engelbreit in "You're Invited: A Cookbook for Special Occasions" (Andrews McMeel, 2003, $29.95). In addition to its traditional use in desserts, it also makes fantastic beverages.

Here's one, along with another cool refresher for the coming warm months:

Sweet 'n' Creamy Iced Coffee

8 cups hot, very strong coffee 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk

In a blender, combine the coffee and milk, in batches if necessary. Pulse for 45 seconds, or until combined and frothy.
