There are hundreds of beers out there today called "ambers." It's probably the most ubiquitous beer style outside of plain old American lager.

Because ambers are brewed as both ales and lagers (Sprecher Special Amber, for instance, is a lager); and because some are almost light-bodied, some medium and a few border on heavy; and with some malty-sweet and others quite hoppy-bitter, amber is easily the most confusing beer style on the planet.
