Sexual activity at girls prison investigated

State approves independent review of inmate claims

The state Department of Corrections said Thursday that it is hiring an independent investigator to review sexual activity among inmates at Southern Oaks Girls School, the state's prison for girls in Union Grove.

The Journal Sentinel reported Tuesday that 10 current and former inmates said close to 90% of the prison's population engages in sexual activity of some sort while behind bars.
