Mission trip to Nicaragua was a journey of self-discovery

A blood red moon was rising over a darkened Nicaragua as our plane descended into the mysterious country late one summer night. Somewhat superstitious, I took that as a good omen that this nine-day journey was meant to be.

We arrived at our hotel in Managua a few hours later and I stared in amazement at the bedspreads in my room. I know, that sounds stupid, but it was ironic, really. They were the exact same design as my shower curtain at home. Aha! I thought, another sign.
