State corrections officials are rightly seeking an outside investigation into claims of widespread sexual activity among inmates at Southern Oaks Girls School, a prison for teens in Union Grove. The allegations came to light recently in reports by the Journal Sentinel's Megan Twohey.

Now, officials must take care to:

-- Choose the right investigator for this delicate job. Feelings about sex are complicated. Many girls in the facility are emotionally fragile. Most have been abused. The investigator must have training in

interviewing under circumstances such as these.
