Wisconsin maker gets top honor in U.S. contest

It's official: California may have happy cows, but Wisconsin has the best cheese in America.

La Valle cheesemaker Sid Cook's robust Gran Canaria brought home "Best of Show" honors Saturday at the American Cheese Society's annual contest in Milwaukee, topping 725 other cheeses from across the country -- including California -- in America's most prestigious competition for handcrafted specialty cheeses.

Last year's top cheese was from California.
