Cedarburg officials consider tax levy, budget
Proposal would meet spirit of property tax cap vetoed by Doyle
Cedarburg -- For the second year in a row, city officials are
proposing a tax levy and budget that meets the spirit of a property
tax cap state Republican lawmakers approved last year but was vetoed
by Gov. Jim Doyle.
Mayor Greg Myers and aldermen are considering a tax levy of
$6,706,475 to help fund city operations for 2005. The proposed levy
is a 2.6 percent increase over the previous levy of $6,535,866.
Under the spending cap plan, levy growth would have been limited
to the tax base increase generated by new construction in the
