MU clamps down on Redbirds

After his team's season opener Sunday night, Marquette Golden Eagles coach Tom Crean talked about the need to turn up the intensity on defense.

Less than 24 hours later against Illinois State in the semifinals of the Black Coaches Association Classic, he got all he could have asked for and more from his charges.

Aggressive from the opening tip while at the same time taking advantage of their opponent's offensive impatience, the Golden Eagles not only destroyed the Redbirds, 60-32, in front of a crowd of 8,203 at the Bradley Center, they also turned in perhaps the best defensive effort in Crean's five-plus years at MU.
