Hurricane season not too unusual
I have been asked about the current hurricane season by many folks
because of the frequency of tropical storms and hurricanes hitting
Florida. The main question is about the number of tropical storms and
hurricanes this season. While this season is above average, it cannot
be categorized as unusually active.
In an average hurricane season, 10 tropical storms will form, and
six of those will mature into hurricanes. This year, there have been
14 named tropical systems, and seven of reached hurricane strength.
While that is one more hurricane than average, it is nowhere near a
very active hurricane ...
