In an effort to spur development in Milwaukee's Park East area,
city officials said Tuesday they will seek proposals for a city-
owned parcel just north of downtown.
The Department of City Development is soliciting proposals for the
purchase and development of an 11,540-square-foot piece of land at
the intersection of E. Pleasant, N. Jefferson and N. Water streets.
"We're going to jump-start progress on the Park East with our own
parcel," Mayor Tom Barrett says in a statement.
The triangle-shaped parcel, while small, has the potential for
"grand things," said Ald. Michael D'Amato, chairman of the Common
Council's Zoning, Neighborhoods and Development Committee. The city's
