Joellyn Erdmann-Crooks took the trial-and-error route to the LPGA Tour, spending years working on her swing and her game and finally making it through tour qualifying on her sixth attempt.

Malinda Johnson took the lightning-bolt route, winning the season- ending Futures Tour event last year to vault to No. 5 on the money list and claim the developmental tour's final automatic LPGA exemption.

Erdmann-Crooks had been a professional for six years when she made it to the big tour. Johnson had been a pro for three months and was still a student at the University of Wisconsin. She graduated in December with a degree in art.

But it doesn't matter how they made it to the LPGA Tour.
