In the fall of 2003, Peter Mahler, the president of Mahler
Enterprises in Milwaukee, was talking on the phone with his friend,
Mark L. Attanasio.
"Peter was in a stream of consciousness mood," Attanasio recalled.
"He was asking me one of those, Did you ever think about doing
anything else with your life' kind of questions. I was trying to get
back to work.
"I told him the truth: What I would really like to do is own a
baseball team. I thought that would end the discussion."
Mahler, who knew Wendy Selig-Prieb, then chairman of the team's
board of directors, said he thought he could be helpful on that
score. "Would you consider investing in the Brewers?" Attanasio said
