Scott "Scooter" Schmidt, a fixture on Water St. who was always up
for an adventure, had hobbies that would scare most men half to
death.
He sped down steep hills on in-line skates, skis, even an old lawn
mower when he was little anything that would make him go faster than
common sense thought he should.
He began driving go-karts regularly during the last year and raced
his best lap ever on Sunday, days before he died.
Schmidt was shot Wednesday night in his apartment in the 200 block
of E. North Ave. and died Thursday. He was 42. His dog, a Siberian
husky named Cosmo, also was shot. It is unclear whether Cosmo will
