Washington Ben Sheets has had enough of throwing batting practice to teammates and repeating defensive drills.

"I'm ready to play," he said.

The Brewers' ace made that proclamation Tuesday after the most extensive pitching session since he went on the disabled list April 21 with inner-ear inflammation that resulted in dizzy spells. Sheets threw 90 pitches as five teammates took turns in the hitting cage.

Sheets still experienced an uncomfortable moment or two when turning his head sharply during fielding drills. But he said afterward that he felt well enough to pitch in a minor-league game, the next step before being activated by the Brewers.
