Article: Lake Winnebago spearing season undergoes rule changes

Oshkosh More changes are in store for the sturgeon spearing season on the Lake Winnebago system.

The Natural Resources Board, meeting here last week, unanimously approved holding a public hearing on three proposed rule changes for the season, which has already seen major regulatory changes in recent years.

"We expected the 2005 season to be short and sweet," Ron Bruch, sturgeon biologist with the Department of Natural Resources at Oshkosh, told the board. "It ended up being a relatively long season."

In fact, the season lasted 12 days and included a one-day season on the system's upriver lakes Butte des Morts, Winneconne and Poygan.
