Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett has offered to sell water to South
Milwaukee as a less-expensive alternative to the suburban community's
plans to spend up to $6 million to upgrade its water utility with
advanced filtration technology.
The offer, however, did not go far with South Milwaukee Mayor
David Kieck or Water Utility Commission President John Skorupski, who
both aim to maintain local control over the community's water needs.
"Currently I'm inclined to move forward with South Milwaukee's
proposal," Kieck said. "We do pride ourselves with our independence,
and . . . I do want to make sure that ours is upgraded, and we
provide the best possible service for our constituents."
