Phoenix The roof was closed Thursday afternoon at Bank One
Ballpark but there was still a small cloud hovering over the
Milwaukee Brewers' 14-2 victory over Arizona.
Rookie shortstop J.J. Hardy left the game in the fifth inning with
what was described as turf toe in his right foot. Turf toe is a term
used to describe a bruise at the base of the big toe called the
metatarasal phalangeal joint and it is characterized by pain and
swelling.
"It's not as bad as turf toe," said Hardy, who went 1 for 3 with a
double, a walk and a run scored before exiting. "It's actually closer
to my arch. I think it's a strained or stretched ligament or
something, I'm not sure.
