Article: Proposal shifts funds from parkland to aiding disabled; Nearly 200 people on Waukesha County waiting list

Waukesha Disabled people waiting to live independently would have a better chance of getting assistance, under a proposal to tap $500,000 in Waukesha County funds earmarked for land conservation.

County Supervisor Carl Seitz of the Town of Eagle wants to transfer the funding from a parkland acquisition program to a human services program that has nearly 200 people on a waiting list.

The people are diagnosed with autism, cerebral palsy and other developmental disabilities, but most still live with their parents or other family members because they cannot afford the assistance they need to live independently.

Waits of 5 years or more

Some might remain on the waiting list five years or longer ...
