Madison In the face of overwhelming support for a measure he
never embraced, Gov. Jim Doyle was expected to sign into law a bill
repealing the automatic spring increase in the state gas tax.
But Doyle still plans another veto of a bill that would allow the
carrying of concealed weapons.
The Assembly approved both measures early Wednesday after an all-
night session.
Although Republican legislators hoped they had built a veto-proof
majority on the concealed weapons bill, two Democrats who voted for
the measure suggested Wednesday that they might switch their
positions, which would keep their party's leader from having his
promised veto overridden.
