If the Marquette Golden Eagles were looking to make a statement,
their Big East showdown with the 17th-ranked Georgetown Hoyas on
Thursday night provided the perfect stage.
Playing in front of their first true national TV audience since
late November, they took full advantage, snapping a mini two-game
losing skid and beefing up their NCAA tournament rsum all in one fell
swoop by winning, 57-51, in front of a Bradley Center crowd of 15,243
that braved slick roads and falling temperatures.
MU outscored Georgetown, 9-2, over the decisive final 3 minutes 52
seconds to record its first victory over a ranked opponent since
beating No. 2 Connecticut on Jan. 3. Next up is ninth-ranked
