Anaheim, Calif. There was no saving Team USA this time.
Unable to take advantage of the second life provided the previous
evening by another country's victory, Team USA meekly bowed out of
the World Baseball Classic with a 2-1 loss to Mexico Thursday evening
before a bipartisan crowd of 38,284 at Angel Stadium.
The loss dropped Team USA to 1-2 in the second round, creating a
three-way tie with Japan and Mexico behind first-place Korea (3-0).
Using the tie-breaker of fewest runs allowed divided by innings
played in the field, Japan advanced to the semifinals ahead of Team
USA by a margin of two-thirds of an inning.
Korea and Japan will play for the third time in the tournament
