Sale gains to go back into Manitowoc Company

The Manitowoc Company Inc. said Tuesday it would take a $17 million gain from the sale of its Diversified Refrigeration subsidiary to General Electric Co.

Terry D. Growcock, Manitowoc chairman and CEO, said proceeds from the sale would be reinvested in "higher growth opportunities that expand or complement Manitowoc's market-leading position in cold- focused food service equipment." Manitowoc makes ice cube machines, ice and beverage dispensers and commercial refrigeration equipment.

Diversified Refrigeration has been making the Monogram brand of residential refrigerators and freezers on a private-label basis for GE.
