The halcyon days of Conference USA must seem awfully far away for
four of the five former members now calling the Big East home.
With the exception of Marquette University, which at 5-2 is in
fifth place in the league standings, the Big East's other new
additions have endured a rough indoctrination thus far.
Cincinnati is 3-3, tied for seventh place, and down to eight
scholarship players because of injuries and defections. Louisville is
2-4, tied for 11th, not nearly as athletic as in years past and until
Wednesday was nursing a three-game conference losing streak, its
longest since the 1984-'85 season.
DePaul is a mess, with injuries and suspensions leaving the Blue
Demons at 1-6, in 15th ...
