Madison Wisconsin taxpayers have paid $163,757 in legal bills for
two former Assembly Republican leaders and one of their aides
convicted in the Capitol corruption scandal bills that won't be paid
unless the sentencing judge orders repayment, state officials say.
The $163,757 in legal bills were submitted by lawyers on behalf of
former Assembly Speaker Scott Jensen (R-Town of Brookfield), ex-
Majority Leader Steve Foti (R-Oconomowoc) and former GOP fund-
raising aide Sherry Schultz before they were charged in mid-October
2002.
The judge will have to order repayment because Jensen, Foti and
Schultz didn't sign an agreement under which legislative leaders
promised in 2003 that legislators ...
