Philadelphia Brewers manager Ned Yost has decided to find out
exactly what he has in left-hander Jorge De La Rosa.
Yost had the option of putting newly acquired right-hander Jeremi
Gonzalez in the fifth spot in the starting rotation for Tuesday's
game in Pittsburgh but has decided instead to give De La Rosa his
first start since late in the 2004 season.
"I want to give De La Rosa a shot at it," said Yost. "He's been
pitching pretty good."
Gonzalez, acquired from the New York Mets on Friday in a trade for
reliever Mike Adams, made three starts for the Mets and is fully
stretched out. He last pitched Thursday, so the Tuesday slot would
put him right on schedule with four days of rest.
