Article: BY REQUEST; A craving for crullers

About a dozen readers sent recipes for making homemade crullers for Dennis Bowerman, St. Louis, who requested the recipe. Bowerman said since he moved out of state, he has not been able to find any bakeries that sell crullers like those sold at bakeries here.

Jan Camery Pientok, St. Francis, sent a recipe and wrote: "The following was given to me a number of years ago by Gloria Salentine Gestl, South Milwaukee. Try it . . . you'll like it!"

Mary Ficke, Waukesha, wrote: "Here is a cruller recipe in a great aunt's file. She was a cook during the '40s and '50s, when much was done by hand at home. I hope it works for Journal Sentinel readers."
