Article: Bolstering border patrol; 80 state National Guard soldiers to be deployed to Arizona

Eighty soldiers in the Wisconsin National Guard will leave Thursday for a deployment to Arizona and a two-year stint helping border patrols stop illegal immigrants from Mexico, military officials announced Monday.

All of the troops being sent west as part of Operation Jump Start volunteered for the duty late last week, said Lt. Col. Tim Donovan, spokesman for the state's Department of Military Affairs. Most of them have served tours in Iraq and Kuwait, and they represent units spread throughout the state, Donovan said.
