Ametek Racine lays off 37 employees

Racine Ametek Racine, a motor-manufacturing plant based in Pennsylvania, gave layoff notices last week to 37 of its approximately 90 workers in Racine.

In a notice to the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development dated July 17, the company said the layoffs will be effective either Sept. 22 or Sept. 30. The letter was sent so that the company would be in compliance with state and federal laws that require 60 days' notice for major layoffs or plant shutdowns.

According to the notice, the layoffs will be permanent.

The company, which opened its Lamb Electric branch here in the early 1970s, had employed as many as 700 people, but has been laying off ...
