With great interest and disappointment, I read Beth Berselli's
article on the explosion of computer games geared specifically to
girls {"Girls Tired of Nuking Aliens Get Softwear to Call Their
Own," front page, Feb. 2}. In presenting debates about the value of
and need for girls-only software, Ms. Berselli neglects a crucial
line of thinking. While it may be true that most of the games now
being marketed for girls bear new profit margins but nothing new in
approaches to female development, nonetheless, we should be careful
not to limit our critique to girls-only games.
Where were the critics when "shoot-em-up" games like Doom and
Duke Nukem were the only ones on the market? It seems ...
