The Department of Natural Resources will hold a series of public
hearings on a controversial proposed rules package for fishing
tournaments held in Wisconsin.
Last week, meeting in Allouez, the Natural Resources Board
unanimously approved holding the hearings only after eliminating one
of three proposed options for paying the estimated $76,000 annual
cost of the tournament program. The option would have divided the
cost among organizers, participants and the state's Fish and Wildlife
account, which includes proceeds of license sales and a federal tax
on hunting and fishing equipment.
