St. Louis The argument resurfaces every year when the World
Series is played.
Why does major-league baseball play with two sets of rules, using
the designated hitter in American League parks but not in National
League parks?
With the Series shifting to Busch Stadium for three games, the
Detroit Tigers are forced to have their pitchers bat, something they
do during the regular season only in interleague play. It created no
problems for St. Louis, which had enough hitters struggling to make
it easy to sit one down.
Detroit's Jim Leyland and St. Louis' Tony La Russa have managed in
both leagues and therefore were not flustered to make the adjustment,
but they agreed it's a weird way to play ...
