What better setting in Britain for a Brian Wilson and The Beach
Boys-inspired art exhibition than Tate St Ives? It overlooks
Porthmeor Beach in Cornwall, with its long stretch of sand and
paddling surfers.
Inside, Liam Gillick's tubular bells, hanging from the ceiling,
evoke The Beach Boys' song "Wind Chimes", and John Mc-Craken's
Visitor, a white plank of wood leaning against a wall, could easily
be mistaken for a surf board, while Peter Blake's 1964 screen print
Beach Boys im-mortalises the American rock-'n'roll band, formed in
the early Sixties, who sang about surf, girls and cars.
