As he makes his way across the stage, Norrie Cox is a whirlwind of
nervous energy adjusting instruments and microphones, answering
last-minute questions and generally thriving on the chaos and
confusion that take place before any show.
He's nervous, just as he is before any show.
But on this morning, it's not Cox who is opening for the legendary
Preservation Hall Jazz Band from New Orleans, it's his students the
New Orleans Jazz Band.
It was a cold, icy morning in downtown Milwaukee last week when
about 4,000 students and seniors piled into the Riverside Theatre
for a dose of New Orleans-style jazz.
