While surveys show that even '90s newlyweds receive slow cookers
more than any other appliance, those same surveys don't reveal what,
if anything, they are doing with them.
If they are like the brides of the '70s, they're probably shoving
their crock pots onto a dark shelf and forgetting about them.
Many brides of the '70s, and many family cooks since, have tried
a slow cooker once or twice and were disappointed with the resulting
insipid, watery dishes. They blame themselves for these minor
cooking disasters and put the slow cooker away, only to be haunted by
its potential.
