And while local theater companies are managing all that, they'll be collaborating more than ever before; presenting local premieres of plays by David Mamet, Brian Friel and Neil Simon; and staging two shows apiece by playwrights Eugene O'Neill, Tom Stoppard and a little-known Minnesota writer named Jeffrey Hatcher.

Among the 15 troupes that have announced their plans so far, 77 shows are in the wings.
