A dispute over retirement benefits has prompted the Milwaukee Police Department to temporarily suspend its DARE anti-drug program, an attorney who represents police officers in pension concerns said.

The department announced Friday in a press release that its Drug Abuse and Resistance Education program, as well as its GREAT (Gang Resistance Education And Training) program, was temporarily placed on hold because the department underwent an "unanticipated loss of police personnel" because of a recent court decision involving duty disability retirement benefits.
