With broad support and an effective organization to coordinate
it, a consumer initiative to encourage Prince George's County
residents to shop in the county could be a plus for retailers and
business retention efforts there.
But for the shop-where-you-live campaign to succeed,
organizers will not only need widespread support, but also a much
stronger effort by county officials to attract and retain
businesses.
What began a few months ago as a fledgling grass-roots
campaign to encourage upscale retailers to open stores in Prince
George's County has evolved into something much bigger and
apparently better organized.
