Getting furniture to fit naturally in a house is often a matter of matching stylistic periods: ornate furniture in a Victorian; sleek-lined pieces in a modern house. But not always.

Washington architect Reena Racki chose the opposite approach for a town house filled with Mission furniture. Instead of adding heavy, dark and hand-crafted details to repeat the distinctive 1920s furniture, she went for a modern, open design.
