When Jane Ehrmann graduated from Holy Cross Elementary School in 1969, the school had 487 pupils.

Ehrmann, who is midway through her first year as the school's principal, couldn't remember how much tuition was then, but in 1973 it was $100 per year.

Since then, Holy Cross, 5424 W. Blue Mound Road, has followed the pattern of many Catholic schools. Tuition rises as enrollment drops.

Enrollment is now 156 and tuition has gone up about as fast as player salaries at nearby County Stadium. It's now $1,475 per year for the first family member.

Late last year, Holy Cross explored consolidating with St. Anthony
