FMLA is supposed to stand for Family and Medical Leave Act. For
many managers and business owners, however, it stands for
"Frustrating Maze of Legal Aggravation," especially in Wisconsin.
It makes little sense that, in addition to the complicated federal
leave regulations, Wisconsin has a different, inconsistent and
equally complicated law governing the same area.
The federal law does not supersede Wisconsin's; employers must
follow both. However, when experienced human resource professionals
need to call a lawyer just to get basic questions answered when an
employee asks for time off, something is wrong.
