More than 20 law enforcement officers descended on the Sears store at Brookfield Square mall early Sunday to search for a burglar who apparently broke in shortly before midnight.

They found him, 45 minutes later, asleep on a bed in the store's second-floor furniture department, said Brookfield police Sgt. Joseph Mozina.

Police also found a pile of electronic items telephones, cassette recorders and portable stereos in the Sears Automotive Center lot that they believe the suspect, a 39-year-old Milwaukee man, was trying to steal. He also tried to break into two cars in the lot, police said.
