Q: I recently had heart bypass surgery and was told to follow a
low-fat diet and lose weight. I've been reading the food labels and
buying only low-fat or non-fat foods, but I still haven't lost
any weight.
What am I doing wrong?
A: Counting fat grams helps you modify your diet to eat less fat,
but it does not automatically limit your calorie intake. If you need
to follow a low-fat diet and lose weight, you will need to count fat
grams and calories.
The most important dietary change someone with heart disease can
make is to reduce saturated fat intake. Saturated fat raises blood
cholesterol levels more than any other food by blocking the system
