INSIDE PITCH
AT THE PLATE: Brewers leftfielder Greg Vaughn, who grew up and
still lives in Sacramento, Calif., has terrorized Oakland pitchers
throughout his career. Thursday night, he walked twice and scored a
run but was the only Milwaukee starter without a hit or an RBI.
Catcher Mike Matheny, who entered the game in a 2-for-17 slump, had
two hits and two RBI.
ON THE MOUND: It's been on the mound in each of his 38 big-league
appearances, but Milwaukee left-hander Scott Karl didn't use the
