In a grudging response to the Senate Whitewater Committee, Hillary
Rodham Clinton said under oath Monday that she recalled almost
nothing about her law firm's billing records. She declined to
address a last-minute allegation about an old loan.
At the same time, her lawyer made a strong attack on Senate
Republicans, calling their questioning of the first lady's actions
and motives a "smear."
Hillary Clinton did not directly answer questions posed by the
Senate Whitewater committee last week. The questions were sparked
by an Arkansas banker who said she dismissed his warning that a
controversial land deal might be legally questionable.
