The West Bend Co. will introduce its first stand mixer this fall,
after modifying the product to conform to a federal judge's order.
West Bend Co., a West Bend-based division of Premark International
Inc., has manufactured hand mixers for years. The company ended up
in U.S. District Court in Hattiesburg, Miss., after Sunbeam Corp.
filed a lawsuit claiming that West Bend's new stand mixer was a
knockoff of its classic Mixmaster.
Judge Charles Pickering ruled May 3 that West Bend had infringed
on Sunbeam's design rights and issued a preliminary injunction
preventing West Bend from selling the product.
